Nottingham Forest fans can start to plan for the FA Cup semi-final clash with Manchester City but one aspect of the fixture details has left them slightly concerned.
Matz Sels received praise from Alan Shearer as Forest once again won in dramatic style to reach the FA Cup semi-final, beating Brighton on penalties.
Remarkably, it was the third successive penalty shootout that Nuno Espirito Santo’s side survived in the competition to get to the final four, made even sweeter after Wayne Rooney criticised Espirito Santo for resting a number of his stars.

A trip to Wembley is just reward for the perseverance of the Forest squad so far in the FA Cup, with Reds fans ready to enjoy a trip to the national stadium for the first time since 2022 for the play-off final under Steve Cooper.
However, there may be an issue with the scheduling of the match, something that Forest fans have taken to social media to raise.
Nottingham Forest fans worry over FA Cup semi-final date
The FA has announced, perhaps expectedly, that Forest will play City in the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday the 27th of April, with kick-off set for 4:30 pm.
It’s Forest’s best chance at cup glory since the 1991 FA Cup final defeat to Tottenham, but Reds fans are concerned about the fact that the game will clash with the London Marathon, scheduled for the same day.
One fan said: “What a day they have chosen, on that day also is the London Marathon (a date known for ages),” whilst another added: “Why pick the same weekend of a marathon in London.”
Another fan sarcastically said: “London marathon on the same day too, excellent planning,” with another Forest supporter saying: “Same day as the London marathon, no thought for the fans at all.”
One Forest fan added: “Same day as the London marathon let chaos begin,” while another continued: “Well this is going to be hell, London marathon the same day.”
Whilst the travel may well be difficult for Forest fans to combat, they will at least take confidence in knowing that their opponents, Manchester City, are a team they have bested recently.
Nottingham Forest fans can travel to Wembley feeling confident
In a turn of events that would’ve been hard to predict at the start of the season, Forest will go into the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City with strong belief, backed by the evidence of March’s Premier League fixture.
Callum Hudson-Odoi was hailed by Michael Owen as the winger scored the game’s only goal as Forest took a giant step towards Champions League football, in a defensive performance that could comfortably be replicated at Wembley.
| Statistic | Nottingham Forest vs Manchester City |
| Possession | 31% |
| Aerial duels won | 10 |
| Clearances | 25 |
| Shots on target | 4 |
Having little of the ball is part of the plan for the Forest coaching staff, as it is usually backed up by brilliant defensive work as shown by the number of clearances and aerial duels won.
In the game, though, Forest actually had one more shot on target than City, a sign that if performed correctly, Espirito Santo can set his side up to perform the exact same way at Wembley and find the same success on the counterattack.
