Nottingham Forest are on the cusp of something special, and with six games to go, the club are in a much prettier place than 12 months ago.
Rewind to this stage of last season and Forest were in a real battle to avoid the drop, with Luton threatening to achieve the unthinkable and send the Reds back to the EFL amid a four-point deduction over PSR breaches.
Now, Forest are third in the Premier League and in a battle to win a Champions League place, whilst Luton will be all but relegated to League One if they lose to Derby County in a Good Friday clash at Pride Park.
Forest were beaten 1-0 by Everton on Saturday to set the nerves jangling. Naturally, with Aston Villa, Newcastle and Manchester City all winning, pundits are now out in full force, debating over whether the Reds might drop out of Champions League contention.

Simon Jordan makes fresh Nottingham Forest claim
The pundit has often jumped to the defence of Forest, and he actually praised Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis for spending a vast amount of money to try and hold lofty ambitions following promotion to the Premier League.
In the summer, he did risk the wrath of the Forest fan base by suggesting that the club would be relegated this season, yet like most pundits, he’s conceded that he made a massive error of judgement with that prediction.
Now, he’s made a fresh claim about Forest and this one will likely go down a little bit better than the one he made before a ball was kicked in the 2024/25 campaign.
He said live on TalkSPORT: “”He’s ambitious, of course he’s got his heart set on the Champions League, he wants Forest to be successful. He said two or three years ago he wanted to win everything, that’s a tall order, a big ask but if he can get into the Champions League during a season where nobody expected it,
“I’ve no right to say anything by the way because I tipped Forest to get relegated. I think Forest will regroup after this Everton defeat, but if people think they’re running out of gas, they were so good against Villa in the second half, they had so many chances.
“The more I look at Chelsea’s fixtures, playing against Newcastle, playing against the other sides they’ve got, they may not find themselves in the Champions League.”
Forest’s remaining fixtures feel favourable in 2024/25
Before a ball was kicked, playing Chelsea and West Ham in the last two games might have felt quite tough but the Blues have been inconsistent and had the three promoted teams not be so terrible, the Hammers would be in trouble.
Forest probably couldn’t have picked better fixtures to finish the campaign with. Tottenham will provide a stern test next time out but before the last game of the season against Chelsea, the Reds play a clutch of teams with very little to play for.

Ultimately, Forest have to stick to their principles in the final half a dozen games. Nothing has been won or lost just yet, and as Jordan suggests, it’s imperative the Everton game is parked and the Reds move on quickly from it.
There is still all to play for this season and as frustrating as the weekend was, it hasn’t proved to be season-defining with Champions League qualification very much in Forest’s hands.
