Nottingham Forest to hand former Manchester City star a chance at returning to the Premier League

Nottingham Forest will be going in search of a marquee signing or two once the summer transfer window opens for business.

Evangelos Marinakis wanted a striker in January and although one will be sought in the summer, the transfer business won’t be restricted to players who can operate in the final third.

If Forest qualify for a European competition next season, the Reds will need more quality across the pitch and that could lead to a very busy summer from Nuno Espirito Santo’s perspective.

The current crop of players have worked wonders this season and Forest currently occupy fourth spot in the Premier League table with just half a dozen games of the 2024/25 campaign left to play.

The transfer links have already started to emerge ahead of the window reopening in a couple of months and it would appear that the midfield ranks will be lined up for some reinforcements.

Nottingham Forest still want Juventus star Douglas Luiz

The Brazilian midfielder was on the radar of Forest in January but the player opted to stay put in Turin, having only signed for Juventus from Aston Villa during the summer window.

Now, Gazzetta dello Sport is claiming that Forest are still in the mix to sign Luiz when the transfer window opens, with Juventus willing to move him on from the Serie A club ahead of the new season.

Luiz does still have a chance to impress people at Juventus and earn a reprieve. The midfielder will head to the Club World Cup in the summer and his current outfit will make a decision after that point.

It’s claimed, however, that Forest will have a big say in the situation surrounding Luiz and it’s believed that he’s a player who the club would love to bring to the City Ground to bolster the squad for next season.

Signing Luiz would surely mean departures in store

The midfielder is proven in the Premier League and given that he helped Villa reach the Champions League before leaving, it’s fair to say that he’d be a welcome addition.

However, the one area of the pitch where Forest do currently have options is in midfield, where Danilo, Nicolas Dominguez, Ryan Yates and Ibrahim Sangare all compete for the shirt alongside Elliot Anderson.

Luiz would be a very useful signing, however. He’s got the credentials as a proven number six and an enforcer-type would be most welcomed as the Reds look to tighten up even further.

With Luiz set to play for Juventus at the Club World Cup in the summer, this doesn’t feel like an easy deal to do but if Forest could pull it off, it would be a signing that might send out a message to rival clubs.
