Nottingham Forest silenced their doubters last night with a 2-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur in the capital.

After a rocky couple of weeks, many had started to doubt whether Nottingham Forest would make the top five, thus qualifying for the Champions League.

But, Nuno Espirito Santo’s men produced a superb performance away at Tottenham to take all three points and move back into third.

Harry Toffolo was a standout performer, whilst Elliot Anderson enjoyed a terrific performance in midfield for the visitors.

Forest had to defend resolutely after racing into a two-goal lead and they did endure a nervy ending after Richarlison’s late goal.

But, ultimately, they managed to hold on and speaking after the game, Tottenham Hotspur star Dejan Kulusevski hailed one Forest star in particular for their performance.

Tottenham star Dejan Kulusevki hails Nottingham Forest’s Matz Sels

When Nottingham Forest signed Matz Sels for around £5m in 2024, he arrived with very little fanfare and was viewed as a Newcastle United reject by some.

However, it’s fair to say Sels has exceeded everybody’s expectations as he’s established himself as one of the best keepers in the Premier League.

That was again on show against Spurs last night as he made several terrific stops, which Dejan Kulusevski hailed after the game.

“They are a very difficult team to play because they are very good at defending and play a lot of men behind the ball,” Kulusevski told Sky Sports.

“We created a lot of chances. Their goalkeeper made some good saves. I hate to lose. It is a bad feeling.”

Sels isn’t surprised by his form

One of the biggest traits a keeper must have is confidence, as that can often dictate performance levels, so it’s vitally important to be self-assured.

And, it appears Sels has that in abundance, as he made the point that his form shouldn’t be a surprise given how well he did in France prior to joining the East Midlanders.

“I did well in the last years in France but maybe the people here in England do not follow that league,” Sels said.

“The last deadline day was not easy to stay here with Forest but the Gaffer had a plan and he created something really good.”

Interestingly, the former Newcastle shot-stopper admitted that he could’ve left Forest in the last transfer window, so it’s just as well he had the backing from Nuno.

What an inspired signing Sels has turned out to be.
