Nottingham Forest beat Tottenham Hotspur last night and it was a special night for defender Neco Williams in North London.

The Welsh performer was playing in the capital for the last time this week, with Williams unfortunately suspended for the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City on Sunday.

The 24-year-old has been in fine form during the 2024/25 campaign and he’s taken his game to a new level after being considered the first-choice left-back for most of the season.

In recent weeks, injury to Ola Aina has seen him back on the right and as ever, he’s been extremely reliable when called upon under Nuno Espirito Santo, with Forest in the hunt for Champions League football.

Neco Williams receives praise after 100th Premier League appearance

The Forest defender was in decent form last night against Tottenham as he came up against promotion-winning defender Djed Spence, who found himself playing left-back for Spurs.

It was a 100th appearance for Williams and he’s not unclipped his helmet and raised his bat towards the pavilion when it comes to turning out in the greatest league in the world.

After the game, Williams took to Instagram to speak of his pride at fetching up the milestone. He posted: “100 Premier League appearances and three points.”

He received praise from a former Liverpool teammate, Conor Bradley, who posted the applause emoji and also Elliot Anderson, who merely said, ‘congrats’ followed by a flame emoji.

Being brutally honest here, Williams has played better than he did against Tottenham in recent months but nevertheless, this was still a very competent performance from the defender.

He recovered from an early moment of madness when he tried to clear with his head when it seemed easier to kick it clear, allowing Mathys Tel the chance to score from close range, although he did fluff his lines.

Williams has grown as a footballer this year, producing the goods on a consistent basis under Espirito Santo and he’s certainly been one of the most improved players over the course of the season.

The defender will now get the chance to rest over the weekend as he serves a suspension against Manchester City, which will mean he will be ready and raring to go when Forest play Brentford next Thursday.
