Nottingham Forest can exclusively reveal that the club may need Champions League football to fend off the interest in Morgan Gibbs-White this summer.

The 25-year-old’s future has been the subject of vast debate, with Manchester City keen to sign Gibbs-White and other clubs likely to show an interest once the window reopens at the end of the season.

Gibbs-White made a huge statement after Forest lost to City 2-0 in the semi-final of the FA Cup at Wembley on Sunday, and the hope will be that the Reds can keep hold of their talismanic playmaker.

Forest added Gibbs-White to their ranks in the summer of 2022, shortly after winning promotion to the Premier League, with Evangelos Marinakis sanctioning a deal worth £25 million upfront and a string of add-ons to take it to £40 million.

Now, an update of sorts has come to light regarding where the land might lie for Gibbs-White when it comes to remaining at Forest beyond the summer transfer window.

Morgan Gibbs-White wants Champions League football

It was clear yesterday that Gibbs-White has a lot of love for Nottingham Forest Football Club, but it would seem as though the player has a firm desire to play in the Champions League.

Graeme Bailey has exclusively told Nottingham Forest News that whether or not the Reds reach the Champions League could actually dictate whether Forest are to keep Gibbs-White or not.

He told us: “The big one in terms of the whole window, I think Gibbs-White will be the big one. They want him to extend his contract, the club would like him to stay, obviously. Of all the players, I think the top five could determine his future.

“If Forest don’t get Champions League, I think it could impact on him and his future more than anybody else.”

Nottingham Forest’s remaining Premier League fixtures

Right now, the prospect of Champions League football is firmly in the hands of Forest and they have five matches to achieve the impossible and get into the Champions League places.

The Reds were backed by plenty to be relegated this season, but they’ve defied the odds and despite ridicule and dismissive comments, Nuno Espirito Santo has quietly gone about his business.

Forest still have it all to play for despite yesterday’s defeat against Manchester City in the FA Cup and hopefully, Gibbs-White can look forward to playing Champions League football with the Reds next season.

It’s not really a surprise that Gibbs-White is keen to test himself in the best club competitions in world football and Forest will hope to get over the line and reach the Champions League in the coming weeks.
