Nottingham Forest’s hunt for Champions League qualification is reaching its final stretch, with Brentford the first of their five remaining fixtures.

Fresh off the back of their disappointing FA Cup defeat against Man City, Forest need to dust themselves off as quickly as possible.

Currently sat sixth, one place outside of the Champions League slots, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are fighting to keep their European dreams alive.

A win against Thomas Frank’s side would do Forest’s chances the world of good, lifting them up to third in the table above the likes of Man City and Newcastle.

Brentford, however, will be no easy task for Nuno’s men, especially when you take a look at Forest’s recent record against the West London outfit.

Nottingham Forest can do the double over Brentford

Forest weren’t themselves agianst Man City and they will have to back to their all their firing best if they are to beat Brentford on Thursday evening.

The City Ground outfit will be positive after their last meeting with the Bees, having come away from the Gtech Stadium with a 2-0 win back in Decemeber.

That victory however was the first time since 2020, that Forest had managed to beat Brentford, ending a six-game winless run against the Bees in the league.

So, with this in mind, Espirito Santo’s side now have the chance to double over Brentford for the first time since the 2019/20, a time in which both teams were still competing in the Championship.

Brentford record will give Forest encouragement

Champions League is a priority for Forest’s players and they will recognise the need for a victory agianst Brentford.

Putting their poor record against the Bees aside, Forest can be encouraged heading into the game, with Brentford themselves also suffering from a run of poor results – particularly those taking place in midweek.

That is because Frank’s men are winless in all 10 of their midweek (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) Premier League matches since the start of last season (D3 L7), while they’ve also lost their only previous Thursday game in the competition (0-2 v Tottenham, December 2021) – via BBC Sport.

So with the Forest vs Brentford clash set to take palce on Thursday evening, can the Bees overcome their barren record of midweek games or can Nuno’s side end their five-year wait for a Brentford double.
