How Nottingham Forest really feel about signing Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace this summer

Nottingham Forest News can exclusively reveal that Nottingham Forest will not be pursuing a move for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi during the summer transfer window.

Forest have been linked with several strikers and forward players ahead of the summer transfer bonanza and links to defenders and midfielders are now also emerging.

The Reds had been loosely linked with a move for the Crystal Palace defender Guehi last week, and he’s once again set to become a wanted man in the summer.

The City Ground will be an attractive proposition for players this summer, should Champions League football be secured, and with five games remaining, Forest are in the hot seat.

Nottingham Forest won’t pursue Marc Guehi

Graeme Bailey has exclusively told Nottingham Forest News that supporters should temper their expectations if they believe Guehi was coming to the club.

The centre-back is not going to be on the Forest shortlist from the outset this summer, most notably because the club don’t believe major reinforcement is needed at centre-back.

He told us: “I can basically tell you that there’s not much to it at all. In fact, it’s not really a thing, which I guess won’t come as a massive surprise to Forest fans.

“I don’t think there is much in that one.

“Forest keep getting linked with these defenders and they don’t expect to be in the market for a £40-£50m centre-back because they don’t need to be.

“Obviously a lot will depend on where Forest finish, but they’re not in this to sell, sell, sell. Such is football, such is like they might still do, but there are certainly no plans to sell Nikola Milenkovic or Murillo in the summer.

“Again, it’s a business, and if someone delivers a valuation for any player, that’s football, but they’re not expecting that.

“Again, Guehi, there’s nothing in that, Forest aren’t pushing that one, and they don’t anticipate being in the market for a top centre-back.”

Marc Guehi stats 2024/25

It’s fair to say that Guehi is going to be the subject of vast interest again this summer after almost joining Newcastle for £70 million during the last summer transfer window.

A year down the line, Guehi’s valuation will likely have decreased with the defender now having a year less to run on his existing deal.

It’s reasonable, however, that Forest won’t be in the market for a central defender, with Nikola Milenkovic and Murillo both producing the goods this season.

Should Murillo be the subject of an offer which Forest simply can’t refuse then, perhaps a stellar defender will be sought after for the Reds, but until that point, it’s no surprise that the Reds have been ruled out of the Guehi race.
