The summer transfer window is quickly approaching and Nottingham Forest are already in the process of drawing up a list of targets.

Nottingham Forest will be playing European football next season, with the hope it’ll be in the UEFA Champions League.

There is still a chance they manage to sneak into the top five, but either way, Conference League football, at the very least, has been guaranteed at the City Ground.

That will make the club a much more attractive proposition for forthcoming transfer targets, and with that said, it’s just come to light that they are leading the race for a two-time Premier League winner.

Nottingham Forest lead race for Manchester City star James McAtee

Nottingham Forest have registered their interest in Liam Delap, who has a £30m relegation release clause in his Ipswich Town contract.

Nuno Espirito Santo is desperate to provide Chris Wood with support next season, but there is an acceptance that Delap will be difficult to sign.

Forest are also keen on signing Manchester City’s James McAtee and now, according to TEAMtalk journalist James Marshment, they’re ready to make a move.

Marshment reports that Forest are leading newly-promoted Leeds United in the race to sign McAtee, who has netted seven goals this season.

The 2003-born has already won two Premier League titles with City, but Pep Guardiola is willing to let him leave on a permanent deal this summer.

Guardiola says everyone loves McAtee

Speaking after Manchester City’s 4-0 win over Slovan Bratislava in October, Guardiola admitted that everyone loves McAtee.

“Everyone adores him,” the City boss explained. “You saw the reaction of the players, so everyone loves him.

“With teams who play so deep he has the quality to find it. He scored and had a few more chances.

“Of course he will not be a regular player but in a lot of games he will help us and when he plays like he did today I can always count on him.”

McAtee is valued at in excess of £25m by the Citizens, so it’s a feasible deal for Forest to do, especially if Morgan Gibbs-White departs.
