Nottingham Forest and Leicester City are viewed as local rivals.

But, Nottingham Forest consider their main rivals to be Derby County, with the Brian Clough Trophy a clear indicator of that.

Meanwhile, on the blue side of the East Midlands, Leicester City have the M69 derby against Coventry City.

That said, whenever Forest and Leicester do meet, there is a little bit of needle, and there aren’t often many trades in the transfer market between the pair.

But, one Leicester Premier League title-winner is actually a scout for the Tricky Trees, which some may not know.

Leicester City hero Wes Morgan is a national scout at Nottingham Forest

Wes Morgan came through Nottingham Forest’s academy and went on to make just shy of 400 appearances before leaving for Leicester City.

Morgan became a fan favourite at the Foxes, too, winning the Premier League title in 2016 and the FA Cup in 2021.

The towering centre-back retired in 2021 after 721 appearances across the two clubs and now works as a national scout back at the City Ground.

Morgan has been in the job since August 2024, with a club statement at the time reading: “Wes Morgan, who was born in Nottingham and played over 400 times for The Reds, joins the Club as a national scout.

“His primary goal will be to assist Dan Kelly’s newly formed PDP & Emerging Talent Recruitment Team, helping to find exciting talent for our full-time squads.”

Morgan proud to be back at the City Ground

There was always rumbling between Forest and Leicester fans about where Morgan’s loyalties lie during his playing career.

Whilst the 41-year-old hasn’t confirmed either, he did admit it was a proud moment to be back at the Tricky Trees.

“Growing up in Nottingham and spending a significant period of my career at Forest, I have a big affinity for the Club,” Morgan explained.

“Working alongside the talented staff and coaches, I’m looking forward to helping identify emerging talent in the local area and beyond.”
