The future of Morgan Gibbs-White at Nottingham Forest is up in the air this summer after another stellar season from the number 10.

Manchester City are keen to sign Gibbs-White during the transfer window. Pep Guardiola was seen deep in conversation with the Forest star during the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley back in April, sparking speculation.

It’s not really a surprise that City are chasing Gibbs-White. Guardiola’s need for a new number 10 is evident on the back of an underwhelming season and the departure of Kevin De Bruyne.

Forest will be desperate to keep hold of Gibbs-White beyond the summer. The UEFA Conference League is on the horizon for the Reds next season, and playing European football may just entice the player into staying for one more campaign.

Fabrizio Romano provides update on Manchester City chase for Morgan Gibbs-White

This might actually be good news for Forest fans, with Romano now providing an intriguing update during a recent transfer bulletin with Give Me Sport.

Romano has claimed that although Gibbs-White remains on the shortlist of the Citizens this summer, a move isn’t currently progressing as they feel he’s too expensive right now.

This comes as City prepare to sign Lyon playmaker Rayan Cherki for around £25 million, and he can play in the same position as Gibbs-White, to further complicate their chase.

Forest would be delighted to keep hold of their talismanic number 10. Evangelos Marinakis will absolutely drive a hard bargain this summer when it comes to Forest keeping hold of their top players.

Keeping Gibbs-White would be outstanding business

If Gibbs-White is to remain at the City Ground, it’s important that Forest give him a new contract to preserve his valuation, with just two years left to run on his existing deal.

The Reds will need to look after number one, and in hindsight, other clubs might come calling for Gibbs-White if indeed City think that his current price tag proves to be too expensive.

At 25-years-old, Gibbs-White is producing the goods on a regular basis, and it’s no surprise that clubs are starting to stand up and take notice of him after his brilliant campaign.

Gibbs-White scored seven goals and claimed 10 assists last season. As a result, he would take some serious replacing from a Forest perspective and the hope will be that City now move on and leave the England man to focus on another season at the City Ground.
