£10m Nottingham Forest player wanted by friend of Evangelos Marinakis, Gary Neville called him ‘useless’

Nottingham Forest will be trying to shift a number of players during the summer transfer window.

Forest are set to sign three Brazilian players to kick off the window in style. Igor Jesus has been courted for some time by the Reds, and he will be bringing two defenders with him in the form of left-back Cuiabano and central defender Jair Cunha.

There could be some departures, however, to make way for more new signings. It’s been claimed in the last 24 hours that Lyon are close to signing Danilo from Forest, with a fee of around £22 million thought to be enough to land the Brazilian.

Forest have valued Morgan Gibbs-White at £100 million this summer. As a result, it’s clear that the Reds are keen to offload players who aren’t considered their top stars, with a number of fringe players set to be deemed surplus to requirements.

Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Matt Turner wanted by Lyon

According to The Athletic, Evangelos Marinakis could be about to call in another favour from John Textor over Matt Turner. The man who owns Botafogo, Lyon and holds a share in Crystal Palace is a good friend of the Forest owner and business has been done with the two frequently in recent years.

Turner signed for Forest for £10 million in the summer of 2023. He’s been deemed surplus to requirements since Nuno Espirito Santo came to the football club and spent last season on loan with Crystal Palace.

During his time with the Eagles, he helped the team win the FA Cup for the very first time. He didn’t play much football across the campaign, however, and was largely used as the reserve option for former Forest loanee Dean Henderson.

Turner’s time at Forest is definitely up. He’s in the final year of his contract now and the Reds will be desperately hoping that Lyon stump up the cash to take him to France during the summer transfer window.

What Gary Neville said about Matt Turner

Shortly after Espirito Santo took over from Steve Cooper at Forest, the Reds played Manchester United. Morgan Gibbs-White scored the winner as a 2-1 win was secured, but Turner did his level best to help the Red Devils out with some catastrophic footwork.

Neville wasn’t impressed and said: “I’ve got no sympathy for him whatsoever. It’s absolutely ridiculous. He’s useless with his feet; he’s proven it time and time again, yet he still tries. Just put your foot through it, it’s a scandal from that goalkeeper.”

Turner is behind Matz Sels and Carlos Miguel in the pecking order at Forest. With that in mind, it would be extremely useful if Marinakis could lean on his good friend Textor to do him another favour and take him to Lyon this summer.
