Alex Moreno won’t be returning to Nottingham Forest after the club opted not to sign him permanently from Aston Villa.

The Spaniard signed on a season-long deal at the City Ground and initially made a brilliant impact.

However, a resurgent Neco Williams managed to pin down the left-back spot around December, and frankly, the team never looked back amid a meteoric rise up the Premier League table.

Moreno has been linked with Real Betis previously. It was the Seville-based outfit that he initially signed for Aston Villa from and he’s a bit of a darling to the fans over there.

The Premier League could still be calling still though, and another club is keen to land him this summer.

Alex Moreno could join Leeds after Nottingham Forest loan

According to TalkSPORT transfer guru Alex Crook, Leeds are keen to take Moreno, with Villa willing to sanction a £5 million transfer for the left-back.

Moreno was a decent loan addition to the Forest ranks during 2024/25, and he will be fondly remembered for some of his performances.

He was brilliant in stifling Mohamed Salah in the 1-0 away at Liverpool, and Moreno was also a hit with the fans for his fist-pumping antics after games.

In total, Moreno made 19 appearances for Forest, registering one assist and as far as loan spells go it proved a rather successful one.

Forest will hope to add a left-back after Moreno departure

At £5 million, it’s perhaps a surprise that Forest aren’t simply going to sign Moreno on a permanent deal, even if just for a season or two.

Forest have been linked with Cuiabano, however, and it seems likely that he will join Igor Jesus in checking in from Botafogo to fill the void at left-back.

It makes sense that the performance of Williams over the past few months has persuaded Forest to let Moreno leave, given that the Spanish performer is 32.

Still, Moreno will be remembered for the right reasons for his Forest performances across the campaign and it will be interesting to see if he decides on Leeds as his next destination.
