Nottingham Forest are going to be doing a lot of business this summer, but right now, international football has taken centre-stage.

Morgan Gibbs-White played 35 minutes for England against Senegal, whilst other players were also away representing their countries before a well-earned holiday.

Forest will play in the UEFA Conference League next season, and signing new players is going to be paramount as they look to make a genuine fist of success in that competition.

Last night, a host of Forest players were in action across the globe, and it proved a pretty disappointing night for one player in particular.

Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Matt Turner drops a clanger for the USMNT

This might not come as too much of a surprise to Forest fans who saw Turner regularly make mistakes for the Reds between the posts.

The USMNT were in action on home soil last night as they took on Euro 2024 quarter-finalists Switzerland.

It proved a very disappointing night for Mauricio Pochettino’s team as they succumbed to a 4-0 drubbing at the hands of the team ranked 20th in world football.

Turner dropped an almighty howler with the score 2-0, palming a really weak shot into the path of Breel Embolo, who scored from close range.

It proved a disastrous night for Turner and his teammates as the 4-0 defeat came after shipping every goal inside 36 minutes, much to the nation’s dismay.

What the USA media said about Matt Turner

American pundits and experts are adamant in large that Turner is right to be considered the nation’s number one, but on this performance, there must be some doubt creeping in.

Turner is being sold to Lyon and after this disasterclass, the French outfit might quickly have a look to see if there is another goalkeeper out there who could move to the Ligue 1 outfit instead.

NBC Sports gave Turner a 4.5/10 and said: “With no club action since the fifth round of the FA Cup on March 1 and just two USMNT appearances that same month, he might’ve been rusty. It’s hard to say as he was under fire from about the fifth minute through halftime. Definitely wants a goal back.”

Turner has been hammered by Gary Neville previously, and it has to be said that perhaps the Sky Sports pundit had a fair point to question his ability.
