The Premier League fixtures for the 25/26 season have already been announced, but Nottingham Forest fans are furious at the league for their latest update on the opening day.

With the 25/26 Premier League fixtures revealed, Forest fans were relatively pleased with the start to the season as August provided the Reds with three winnable games, including two at the City Ground.

It looks as if October will be Forest’s toughest period but even then, the addition of the UEFA Conference League means that the upcoming season is nearly impossible to predict this far out.

One aspect that’s easy to predict, though, is the endless rescheduling of fixtures, and Forest fans are already angry as the opening weekend match against Brentford has been rearranged.

With the Conference League played on Thursdays, Nuno Espírito Santo will be expecting plenty of changes to the season’s Premier League calendar, with the first coming nearly two months out from kickoff.

The opening game against Brentford has been moved from Saturday the 17th of August to Sunday the 18th, due to a clash with The Hundred cricket in Nottingham, angering Forest fans on social media.

One Forest fan said: “What’s the point of releasing fixture lists,” with another adding: “And so it begins.”

One added: “Why can’t all opening matches be on the same day and time?” Another said: “Well that didn’t take long.”

Another fan said: ” I just dislike Sunday afternoon KO’s personally but I guess they can’t be helped at times,” with one more Reds fan saying: “Let’s be real, most of our games are gonna be Thursday or Sunday.”

Any anger about the fixture changes will likely disappear this season as if Forest are to go far in the Conference League, Saturday afternoon football will be a rare treat.

Nottingham Forest fans will have to get used to fixture changes

Long gone are the days of the traditional 3pm kickoff in the Premier League, with TV rights dictating that matches are spread out across a weekend.

Last season, those involved in the Thursday UEFA competitions only had six Saturday 3pm fixtures between them, compared to Forest’s 15 in the TV blackout spot.

Given that the Forest squad want to go deep in the Conference League, Reds fans can expect fewer and fewer chances to watch the games on a Saturday afternoon, with the Brentford fixture the first of what should be an exhaustive list of rearrangements.
