Report: Nottingham Forest want £6m defender who wins more ground duels than Nikola Milenkovic

Nottingham Forest are looking for a number of new players before the transfer window closes in September.

Nuno Espirito Santo will work tirelessly to get some new faces to the club as he leads the team into the UEFA Conference League next season.

Anthony Elanga is a target for Newcastle, but Forest don’t want to sell, and extra focus will be placed on adding to the squad, not depleting it.

Igor Jesus looks set to sign for Forest and start the ball rolling on the transfer dealings as soon as the Club World Cup has finished.

It won’t just be firepower that is the order of the day for Forest, however, with defensive links also doing the rounds.

Now, another one has emerged, with a talented defender seemingly lined up by the club.

Nottingham Forest want Saba Goglichidze

According to Tutto Mercato Web, Forest are looking closely at Empoli central defender Goglichidze as the club looks to strengthen the rearguard again.

The 21-year-old has made three appearances for the Georgia national team and looks set for a bright future in the game.

It’s believed that Goglichidze was close to a move to Roma in January, but that never materialised and now, clubs from the Premier League are coming forward with interest.

Empoli would like to recoup around £6 million for his signature if he is to leave and has also been linked with Udinese and Parma in Serie A.

Goglichidze can also play as a right-back and last term he made 36 appearances for Empoli in all competitions as they were relegated from the top-flight.

How does Saba Goglichidze match up to Nikola Milenkovic

Given that Milenkovic was the Player of the Year last year for Forest and also came from Serie A, it seems like this is the obvious comparison.

Goglichidze doesn’t stack up badly against the Serbian either, with the target coming in with better numbers than the Forest man last season.

Clearly, Goglichidze won’t come in and take the place of Milenkovic, but he does look like the sort of player who could be a useful addition.

With a number of central defenders already in place at the club, something will probably have to give, but nonetheless, this feels like a very positive link at a bargain price.
