The situation surrounding Nottingham Forest star Anthony Elanga and a potential move to Newcastle is unnerving.
But, it really shouldn’t be.
The Reds are standing firm, it would seem. It’s been claimed that Forest want £60 million for Elanga, and if that price isn’t met with a bid matching that value, the Swedish performer will stay put.
As ever, there isn’t smoke without fire, and naturally, it’s unsettling for the Forest fan base.
Igor Jesus is coming to Forest to strengthen the ranks this summer, and more new players will follow, whether Elanga departs or not.
With Nuno Espirito Santo wanting at least five new players, the quality of those incoming deals could shift should Evangelos Marinakis rake in £60 million from selling Elanga or another of the club’s star players.
Now, it’s a case of another day and another story regarding the 23-year-old and a possible switch to Newcastle.

Newcastle will drop Anthony Elanga interest on one condition
It appears that Brighton star Joao Pedro could hold the key to Newcastle tempering their interest in Elanga this summer.
The Telegraph claim that Newcastle want to sign Elanga, Pedro and James Trafford and that all three players are keen to make the move.
However, there is something with the report that doesn’t make sense.
It’s claimed that Newcastle will potentially drop their interest in Elanga if they can force a deal through for Pedro and vice versa.
Furthermore, it claims that the Magpies have now made a second bid of £50 million, which is still somewhat short of Forest’s valuation and is likely to infuriate Evangelos Marinakis.
Forest need to stand firm on Elanga
If Elanga really does want to go to Newcastle, Forest cannot be tempted to drop the valuation.
The player is under contract until 2028 and his stock will continue to rise in the coming years at the City Ground.
Naturally, Espirito Santo won’t want an unhappy player on his hands at Forest but at the same time, Marinakis doesn’t want to let a Premier League rival land a star player on the cheap.
Forest have done superbly well when it comes to getting good value for their players since promotion and hopefully, that strategy can remain this summer.
As far as Newcastle go with their leaks to the local media, the circus needs to stop and the extremely wealthy football club either needs to put up or shut up when it comes to Elanga.
