Nottingham Forest’s move for Samuel Mbangula has fallen through after a breakdown in negotiations, leading to Reds fans all having the same worry.

Juventus fans didn’t want to see Mbangula depart after the Belgian winger was linked alongside Timothy Weah, but the USA international never seemed keen on departing the Italian giants.

It was thought that Mbangula was keen on a move to the City Ground, with Mbangula posting cryptic Instagram stories hinting at his unhappiness at Juventus.

However, talks with Mbangula have broken down, leading to Reds fans taking to social media to voice their concerns at this early stage of the transfer window.

Nottingham Forest fans start to worry about transfer window

At the end of the season, it was made clear that Evangelos Marinakis had ambitious transfer plans but without seeing a new signing holding the Forest shirt, fans are starting to get a little nervous.

One said: “If we can’t attract quality players with the promise of European football, then we could be in for a long summer and season,” with another adding: “This is a bit concerning.”

Another said: “Getting a bit nervous, we’re only a few weeks away from pre-season.” One more added: “Buy cheap, buy twice as we’re finding out. Expect better from the club before the window closes.”

One more Forest fan said: “We always get rejected. Then you see Sunderland sign a player for £35 million, no problem.”

While the concern is understandable, it speaks to an issue with finding players to fill squad roles in Nuno Espírito Santo’s group that may continue throughout the window.

Nottingham Forest may continue to struggle to sign squad players

One deal that is set to be concluded is Ramon Sosa’s sale to Palmeiras, with the winger cutting short his time at the City Ground after just a year with very few opportunities.

Now, Forest’s seventh-place finish may do enough to justify the lack of opportunities for rotation to bring the likes of Sosa into the team, but it also hints at the future chances of the next squad players attempting to break into the starting XI.

There should be more chances for squad rotation with European football next season, especially given that the Forest squad want to go far in the Conference League.

However, Espírito Santo and the recruitment team have a job to do to convince potential signings that they will have a chance to make a serious impact at the club and not have a similar time to Sosa.
