Nottingham Forest’s transfer window has been rocky so far, with the joy of signing Igor Jesus followed up by a number of failed deals.
Forest are very excited about Igor Jesus after watching the Brazilian star at the Club World Cup, but the two other deals with Botafogo have seemingly hit roadblocks.
Sticking with John Textor, Lyon’s financial woes have meant that Danilo’s £20m switch to Lyon is in jeopardy, with a loan move to Real Betis now rumoured.
Another incoming was scuppered when Timothy Weah rejected a move to Forest, with one of his Juventus teammates now also not looking like he’ll make the City Ground switch.

Nottingham Forest end negotiations with Samuel Mbangula
Forest were in talks with Weah and Samuel Mbangula in a deal that would’ve added depth to both wings, but Weah’s indifference to the deal became clear rather quickly.
It seemed that Mbangula was more keen on the move, but the latest update from transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has put an end to any speculation.
He said: “Nottingham Forest leave the negotiations [with Mbangula] as they’re not convinced by the current conditions of the deal.”
Mbangula posted a cryptic Instagram message after being left out of Juventus’ Club World Cup squad again so it’s hard to believe that the negotiations have collapsed due to the Belgian wanting to stay in Italy.
Whether it was the transfer fee or contract conditions, though, this latest episode with Juventus should give Forest all the information they need about the early stages of this transfer window.
Nottingham Forest will need to be patient this summer
The very conception of the Club World Cup was controversial given its place in the football calendar, but it also seems to be creating problems in the transfer market.
Igor Jesus won’t arrive at Forest until after the Club World Cup and the same would’ve been said of Mbangula if that deal were to have gone through, with the financial gain for the clubs involved meaning that their focus isn’t on transfer negotiations.
Therefore, if Forest are looking to negotiate for players at the clubs involved, they may need to wait until the tournament ends, which isn’t ideal for Nuno Espírito Santo as he’d ideally have his signings in before the start of pre-season.
It must be frustrating for Evangelos Marinakis, too, as Marinakis has ambitious plans for Forest this summer. There’s plenty of time for this ambition to still be realised, but perhaps an unexpected level of patience will need to be utilised until the end of the Club World Cup.
