Nottingham Forest fans are keenly awaiting the first official signing of the summer window, but are rather happy that it won’t be one player who has been extensively linked.
Forest are very excited about Igor Jesus, who will arrive from Botafogo after the Club World Cup. But, he has yet to be officially announced as a Red so the wait for a first signing of the summer continues.
The Club World Cup is at the centre of another of Evangelos Marinakis’ potential deals, too, with Forest looking at Timothy Weah and Samuel Mbangula of Juventus, who are both in the United States for the tournament.
While talks have progressed, it appears that one half of the deal has fallen through, much to the delight of Forest fans on social media.

Fans delighted as Timothy Weah rejects Nottingham Forest move
It had been suggested rather quickly that Weah was unsure about a move to Forest, throwing the double deal into doubt despite Mbangula’s optimism.
Weah has officially rejected the City Ground move now, but not to the disappointment of Forest fans who have shown their relief at the news on social media.
One fan said: “Thank goodness, 11 goals in 149 games for Juventus and Lille. Never saw the appeal at all.” Another added: “Dodged a bullet there.”
Another said: “Not fussed, much better out there,” while one more said: “Quite glad about that. Didn’t have a good feeling.”
One Forest fan added: “Really not fussed about Weah anyway. Think we can aim higher.” Another agreed, saying: “Glad Weah has turned us down. This generation of Americans are woeful players.”
It’s hard to argue with Forest fans’ view on Weah, with the stats throwing into question what exactly he would’ve offered Nuno Espírito Santo.
Timothy Weah wouldn’t have offered much to Nottingham Forest
Weah wanted Forest to double his wages so with those types of demands, the US international would’ve had to have made a significant impact on the Forest squad.
However, the stats never exactly hinted at this happening, with Weah far from a prolific winger in his career to date.
| Season | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| 2020/21 (Lille) | 37 | 5 | 1 |
| 2021/22 (Lille) | 35 | 3 | 4 |
| 2022/23 (Lille | 32 | 0 | 2 |
| 2023/24 (Juventus) | 35 | 1 | 2 |
| 2024/25 (Juventus) | 43 | 6 | 4 |
Weah is coming off his most productive season to date with Juventus, reaching ten goal contributions in a league season for the first time. Even then, the numbers remain underwhelming.
The American’s stats will have suffered as his versatility means that he can often be found playing a deeper role, but the money involved in the deal would’ve made signing Weah an expensive and not necessarily worthwhile deal.
