Newcastle are seemingly not going to give up when it comes to signing Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest this summer.

Newcastle are keen on Elanga, with Eddie Howe a huge fan of the right-sided winger and very interested in adding him to his squad.

Forest, however, want to stand firm and remain keen to recoup £60 million for Elanga, with the player holding three years to run on his existing contract.

The Reds want to ensure their squad is well-stocked ahead of the new Premier League campaign, with Forest also playing in the UEFA Conference League too.

However, the talk around Elanga won’t go away, and now another Sky Sports reporter has had his say on the matter.

Keith Downie makes claim about Anthony Elanga switch to Newcastle

It does feel like Newcastle have grown so tired of not getting the players they want due to low-ball offers that they’ve started leaning on local journalists to cause a stir in public.

Downie thinks that Elanga does want to join Newcastle and has now shared how he thinks this will play out between the Magpies and Forest.

He said on Sky Sports: “The positives are that the money is there to spend and Newcastle are in a lot better position than they have been for the last three windows.

“All the noises after losing out on Joao Pedro is that they will move to Elanga.

“I can see Elanga being perfect for Eddie Howe’s style.

“I would imagine, I feel like that deal will get done. Newcastle aren’t in competition with anyone, they know they’re close in terms of the fee, I think the player would be happy to move here from what I’m being told and I think it’s a case of Newcastle coming up with the numbers.”

Downie does Forest a huge favour

If this has been a ploy to try and unsettle Elanga then it might have backfired in spectacular style.

On one hand, he’s suggesting that Elanga wants to leave but Newcastle know that Forest aren’t going to budge on a valuation of £60 million.

All Downie has done through the media is shout from the rooftops that Newcastle have money to spend and that should excite Forest.

It does the Reds a huge favour, given that the club can now stand firm on their £60 million valuation and refuse to accept a penny less when it comes to negotiating with Newcastle.

If the Magpies really do have the money and Howe is dead set on getting him, it’s time they either put up or shut up, so that all parties can move on when it comes to the transfer window.
