Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga is closing in on a move to Newcastle United.

Nottingham Forest have agreed to sell Anthony Elanga for £52m, and there is a string of add-ons on top of that fee, too.

That’s according to David Ornstein, although, the Telegraph’s John Percy reports the deal to be worth £55m plus £5m in extras.

Either way, Anthony Elanga will be leaving to join up with Eddie Howe’s squad, with pre-season now underway across the Premier League.

Nottingham Forest fans have a lot to say about the sale.

Nottingham Forest fans react to Anthony Elanga sale to Newcastle United

Forest fans have taken to X, formerly known as Twitter, to voice some very contrasting opinions.

“Will be disappointed to see Elanga go to #NUFC but £55 million (plus potentially another £5 million) is a fantastic price for someone we spent £15 million on two years ago. Need to add depth to the squad though, so essential we replace him with two players #NFFC,” @nffc_rob posted.

@dogsnobrob added: “£55m for Elanga is good business. Yes, he had some great performances for #nffc but I trust the recruitment team to upgrade with his replacement. All the best. Thanks for the memories!”

@lucaswheat explained: “For me losing Elanga is a massive reality check that we will never be able to consistently compete with the bigger richer clubs. They will always come in and take our better players. Yes Marinakis has money but not the kind of money you need to be a top top club. #nffc.”

“#nffc people moaning about Elanga going, wise up!!. He runs fast and takes a good corner 3 out 5 times. Suited and most effective to counter attacking football which Newcastle don’t play…he ended season well obviously trying to impress other teams,” @MrUrban83 commented.

@yatesinho said: “Elanga going is a big loss, teams found out #nffc last year with no strength in depth to change style of play or approach, Grealish on loan would be good, takes the pressure off MGW and Odoi, but we now need 2 right wingers, Johan Bakayoko or Madueke would be my choice.”

“Love the meltdown on #NFFC timeline for the Elanga sale. Probably didn’t even make our best 5 players, he is replaceable and we have got a massive sum for him. It’s football, it’s business. Invest it wisely and let’s see what comes of it,” @smiggs17 posted.

Possible Anthony Elanga replacements

Forest now have a very healthy budget to replace Elanga and it’s understood that a shortlist of wingers have already been drawn up.

Lyon’s Malick Fofana is of interest to Nuno Espirito Santo and he is thought to be valued at around £43m by the French club.

Johan Bakayoko was wanted by Forest last summer and after another sensational season with PSV, he’s likely to be considered.

It’s today being reported that Forest have entered the race to sign Jack Grealish, with it becoming apparent that Pep Guardiola deems him surplus to requirements at Manchester City.

So, there are plenty of great options out there for the Tricky Trees.
