Nottingham Forest are in the market for wingers this summer transfer window.

Forest have already tried to sign Timothy Weah from Juventus, but the USA international rejected a move to the City Ground.

His Juve teammate Samuel Mbangula is also not expected to join Forest despite it initially being reported that he was keen.

Focus has now turned to other wing targets and Fabrizio Romano claimed that Forest agreed a deal to sign Lyon’s Malick Fofana last night.

We can now bring you the latest information on that potential Nottingham Forest deal, having spoken exclusively to journalist Graeme Bailey.

The latest update on Nottingham Forest’s pursuit of Malick Fofana

Romano reported on Tuesday afternoon that Forest had a deal in place to sign Fofana from Lyon, pending personal terms.

Lyon, who have just been demoted to the second tier of French football due to financial issues, reportedly value the 20-year-old at around £43m.

There has been no word on how much Forest have bid, but the Italian journalist has evidently been informed it’s been accepted.

That is not our information, however, as Nottingham Forest News understands the club are playing down suggestions that a deal has been agreed.

Forest are certainly interested in Fofana, as Espirito Santo is in the market for a winger, but talks are not at an advanced stage.

Fofana will be incredibly difficult to sign

Fofana is wanted by multiple Champions League clubs, with Bayern Munich and Chelsea both showing a real interest.

That makes it an incredibly difficult deal to do for the Tricky Trees, whose best pitch would be to guarantee game time.

Even then, Anthony Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi both enjoyed stellar campaigns, so it’d be harsh to drop them to the bench almost immediately.

So, with all that said, Fofana to Forest does seem very unlikely.
