Nottingham Forest are long-term admirers of Yoane Wissa, but according to David Ornstein, they may be set for a difficult battle to secure their man.
Nottingham Forest News learned that Wissa could be available for less than £40m this summer, with his Brentford contract entering its final 12 months.
Forest made another bid for Wissa in response to the high-profile exits in Nuno Espírito Santo’s squad, but the fee was believed to be under £25m and swiftly rejected by The Bees.
There’s been no sign that Forest will end their interest in the Congolese forward, but they cannot be complacent, as Ornstein has broken the news of a Premier League rival’s interest.

Yoane Wissa wanted by a Champions League club
Despite the signing of Igor Jesus, Wissa was wanted alongside Jesus as a more versatile attacker, made only more important after Anthony Elanga signed for Newcastle United.
Newcastle could be set to break Forest hearts again, though, with Ornstein revealing that Eddie Howe could turn to Wissa amid their failed move for Hugo Ekitike.
Ornstein reported: “Newcastle United are exploring a deal to sign Brentford striker Yoane Wissa after cooling their interest in Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike.
“The north east club are yet to contact Brentford but that is expected soon, while an agreement would also be needed with the DR Congo international on personal terms.”
Wissa’s exit from Brentford will be closely tied to the potential departure of Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United, but if Newcastle are set to make a move for the striker, Forest and Edu cannot be complacent.
Edu runs the risk of becoming complacent at Nottingham Forest
Much was made of Edu’s detailed transfer process when the new Global Head of Football finally arrived from Arsenal, but this summer’s transfer business is beginning to suggest that he isn’t moving as fast as required.
In terms of Elanga’s replacement, Belgian star Johan Bakayoko was Forest’s priority target but has now made his move to RB Leipzig.
Wissa has been wanted by Forest since January, and, based on the multiple bids that have been made for the Congolese striker, there must be a feeling that he can be prised away from Brentford.
Of course, Newcastle can offer Wissa Champions League football, but he’d get more minutes in the Forest squad, so Edu must push on with pace to secure Wissa before he becomes another target that slips away.
