Nottingham Forest’s reaction after remarkable move for Jadon Sancho is rumoured

Nottingham Forest remain on the hunt to replace Anthony Elanga, leading to a remarkable story linking them with a move for Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho.

With Elanga now officially a Newcastle United player, the hunt for a replacement has become more urgent given that pre-season is well underway.

Reports in Italy have suggested that Forest have agreed personal terms with Dan Ndoye, but a deal remains far from complete as no fee has been agreed with Bologna.

Leading back to Sancho, then, it’s well established that he will be leaving United this summer, but sources have told Nottingham Forest News that the City Ground may not be his destination.

How Nottingham Forest feel about Jadon Sancho

Given that Forest signed Elanga from United, there is a level of logic to a potential move for Sancho to revive his career in a similar way to the Swede.

This is clearly the angle that The Sun took in their report of the story, suggesting that: “Forest believe Sancho could follow a similar redemption arc [to Elanga] and rediscover his best form.”

However, through transfer expert Graeme Bailey, Nottingham Forest News has learned that the rumoured interest is far from reality.

Sources at Forest have stated that there is nothing in the story linking the club with a move for Sancho, meaning the winger’s “redemption arc” will have to take place elsewhere.

Even if Edu and the recruitment team were seriously considering a move for Sancho, his wages would represent a hurdle that would be near-impossible to jump over.

Nottingham Forest would have to break their wage structure to sign Jadon Sancho

Sancho delivered five goals and eight assists on loan at Chelsea last season, but the London club eventually paid United a fee to remove their obligation to buy the Englishman.

At 25, there is still hope for Sancho to revive his career and become the player that United paid an astronomical fee for, but his current wages would make it impossible for Forest to help him reach that point.

PlayerWage (per week)
Jadon Sancho£350,000
Nikola Milenkovic£105,000
Chris Wood£90,000
Callum Hudson-Odoi£80,000

Sancho earns £245,000 more per week than Forest’s highest earner, Nikola Milenkovic. In fact, even if Sancho were to halve his United wages, he’d still earn £70,000 more than Milenkovic per week.

Of course, the 25-year-old wouldn’t be able to command a club to match his current wage due to his performances over recent years, but it’s hard to believe that Forest could put together a package that the player would accept and that would represent good value for Marinakis.
