Nottingham Forest are currently due to play Europa League football next season.

UEFA found that Crystal Palace breached multi-club ownership rules, so they’ve been demoted to the Conference League.

That in turn has seen Nottingham Forest jump up to UEFA’s second-tier competition, which, of course, makes them a much more attractive destination for any forthcoming transfer targets.

Forest are set to earn much more money if they keep their place in the Europa League, however, Palace are fighting to regain their spot.

The Eagles have now submitted an official appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

When Nottingham Forest will learn whether they’ll play in the Europa League

Crystal Palace’s appeal has officially gone in, and interestingly, they’ve requested to replace either Nottingham Forest or Lyon.

Palace have want an ‘annulment’ of the decision, according to BBC Sport, and they’re expected to learn their fate by the 11th of August.

The decision could come sooner, but either way, from a Nottingham Forest perspective, they’re now in limbo once again.

With the transfer window in full swing, they must decide whether they’re budgeting for the Europa League or Conference League.

There is a huge disparity in finances between both, so it will be incredibly difficult to plan new recruits until the Court of Arbitration for Sport has announced their decision.

Steve Parish hopeful the decision will be overturned

Speaking to The Rest is Football, Palace chairman Steve Parish explained that he believes the decision will be overturned.

“We don’t think this is the right decision by any means,” Parish said.

“We know, unequivocally, that John [Textor] didn’t have decisive influence over the club. We know we proved that beyond all reasonable doubt because it’s a fact.”

A telling few weeks await Nottingham Forest, whose preparation for the fast-approaching 2025/26 Premier League season has been far from ideal.
