After Nottingham Forest completed the signing of Dan Ndoye, Edu looks to be pushing ahead with another major addition in Juventus’ Douglas Luiz.

Edu showed his excitement over the Ndoye signing by reacting to a post on Instagram, giving a sense of just how much the Forest hierarchy wanted to get this deal over the line.

Alongside Ndoye, Espírito Santo is desperate to add Adama Traoré to his attacking options as the Reds look to build a squad that can cope with the added workload of European football.

As well as the attack, the Forest squad could do with some reinforcements at full-back, but the latest update from Fabrizio Romano suggests that the club is making a move for Luiz as the first priority.

Nottingham Forest in ‘direct contact’ over Douglas Luiz

Forest have wanted to sign a central midfielder since the start of the transfer window, but with plenty of options already in the squad, it would need to be a genuine upgrade to make a difference.

Labelled as “world-class” by former teammate John McGinn (via The Athletic), Luiz could fit the bill, with his current issues at Juventus making him available to whoever can agree on a deal.

According to Romano, Forest are trying to position themselves as the frontrunner in the race to sign the Brazilian, having been in “direct contact” with Juventus to sign Luiz in recent days.

It helps that the 27-year-old is desperate to return to the Premier League, with Juventus keen to cut ties with Luiz after a disastrous season that saw him start just three Serie A matches.

How much Juventus are demanding for Douglas Luiz

The drama heated up in Turin after Luiz skipped Juventus training, a move he would later apologise for as his exit from the club draws closer.

However, the Italian giants are not in a position to let the Brazilian go for any price and, according to GIVEMESPORT, Forest may have to break their transfer record again to secure him.

Relating to Everton’s interest, the report said: “Everton are set to take a gamble in their pursuit of striking a deal for Luiz, according to GMS sources, as they are ready to try their luck with a loan proposal if another suitor has not bought him by the start of the season instead of rushing into matching Juventus’ £39million valuation at this stage of the transfer window.”

A £39m deal would put Luiz just ahead of the £34m spent on Ndoye, so Forest will want to be certain before offering such a sum. There’s also been talk of a loan with an obligation to buy, which may suit the club as the transfer fee could be delayed until next season.
