Nottingham Forest have had an incredibly active week in the transfer market, with Fabrizio Romano’s latest update suggesting that Evangelos Marinakis isn’t done yet.

As Forest edge closer to signing Douglas Luiz, the entire landscape of the Reds’ transfer window has changed in the space of a week.

First off, Forest signed Omari Hutchinson for a club record £37m fee, who was then backed up by James McAtee’s arrival at the City Ground as both were paraded at the stadium ahead of the Brentford victory.

After being joined by French striker Arnaud Kalimuendo and with Luiz on his way, it seems as if the Reds are still active in the market for a crucial position.

Nottingham Forest in ‘advanced talks’ to sign right-back

Amid the excitement of attacking additions, full-back has remained a problem area in the Forest squad throughout the summer, but it looks as if the club are now set to address it.

Reports have suggested that Forest may look to re-sign Matty Cash, but according to Romano, the Reds are advancing on a target from further afield.

Romano has reported that Forest are in ‘advanced talks’ over a deal to sign Sevilla right-back José Angel Carmona. The 23-year-old is a natural on the right but has been known to cover at left-back in emergencies for Sevilla, making him a useful prospect for Nuno Espírito Santo.

Carmona may not have a track record of attacking contributions, given that he didn’t register a single goal or assist last season, but he does solve an issue that Nuno was desperate to find a solution for.

Nottingham Forest desperately needed defensive cover

In his pre-match press conference before the 3-1 win over Brentford, Espírito Santo stressed Forest’s need for full-back cover.

In pre-season, he had to utilise the likes of Jair Cunha and Zach Abbott at right-back which was not a sustainable solution for the squad, so targeting someone like Carmona makes sense.

He showed at Sevilla last season that he’s reliable defensively, winning 71% of his tackles and making two interceptions per game. Clearly, his output going forward could do with work but with the plethora of new attacking options in the squad, a more cautious full-back might help balance the side.
