Lee Carsley already has the blueprint for how Nottingham Forest can unlock Omari Hutchinson

Omari Hutchinson arrives at Nottingham Forest as the Reds’ record signing, but the abundance of quality in the attacking areas of the squad means that his place in the team isn’t guaranteed.

Forest signed Hutchinson for £37m to kickstart a spending spree which has significantly improved Nuno Espírito Santo’s attacking options.

James McAtee accompanied the 21-year-old as the pair were presented before the Brentford win on Sunday, while Arnaud Kalimuendo completed his Forest move the following day.

Despite being the most expensive purchase, it almost feels as if Hutchinson will have to work the hardest to break into the starting XI. However, England U21 manager Lee Carsley has potentially shown Forest the best way to unlock their new star.

How Nottingham Forest can get the best out of Omari Hutchinson

Hutchinson arrives from Ipswich with potential but perhaps without the stats to showcase this potential yet in the Premier League.

However, he was playing in a struggling side, so his performances for England at the U21 Euros in the summer might be a better way to showcase what he can offer Forest.

At Ipswich last season, Hutchinson operated across the three positions behind the striker, whereas Carsley exclusively deployed the new Forest man on the left, with McAtee in the middle.

In this role, Hutchinson almost replicated what Callum Hudson-Odoi provides to the Reds, perhaps not getting on the scoresheet but still supporting his teammates by driving the ball forward from the left to then create for others.

When it mattered, though, Carsley’s decision to only use Hutchinson on the left paid off in a way that the Forest coaching staff will surely want to replicate.

Omari Hutchinson provided a crucial goal for England from the left

Lining up alongside now club teammates Elliot Anderson and McAtee, Hutchinson and England went into the U21 Euros final looking to retain their trophy.

Hutchinson scored the second goal of the game as England won 3-2, but the buildup to the goal is something that Espírito Santo will have been watching closely.

As McAtee breaks through the middle, Hutchinson starts his run from wide on the left and drifts in, crucially remaining to the left of McAtee, though, to ensure England had an option out left when Germany crowded the centre of the box.

Once Hutchinson received the ball, he drilled a shot low into the net on his stronger left foot without needing to cut inside into trouble.

He’s still young, so decision-making will be something that develops in time, but the natural instincts on show for this goal may just make the left wing his best position for Forest.
