Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of Douglas Luiz, making him their eighth signing of the summer transfer window.
While the spending at the City Ground has been heavy so far, Forest are still within their PSR restrictions, strengthening ahead of a season with European football.
Douglas Luiz represents another show of ambition from Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis, as both the Greek and Nuno Espirito Santo want to prove last season’s success was not a one-off.
The signing of Luiz has certainly caught the eye of many, including none other than Gary Lineker and Micah Richards, who have also given their thoughts on the latest signing.

Gary Lineker and Micah Richards praise “really good” Douglas Luiz after Forest arrival
Douglas Luiz will be hoping to begin his Nottingham Forest career as best as he can.
The midfielder understands Premier League football due to his time at Aston Villa, having also spent two years contracted to Manchester City, so a bedding-in period is likely to be smaller.
While he never played a game for Man City, he is someone that former City defender Micah Richards has become well aware of, and alongside Gary Lineker, he has delivered his thoughts on the signing.
On the Rest is Football podcast, Lineker says that “Douglas Luiz is a good signing; we like him, Micah, don’t we?”
In response to the former England striker, Micah replies, “Really, really good player. obviously I first saw him at Man City; he didn’t play as much as he would have wanted. Obviously goes to Villa and then goes to Serie A. “
“He’s a really good player because he can play so many different positions. He can play as the deepest-lying midfielder and as a number eight.”
Douglas Luiz’ Premier League stats
Douglas Luiz’s versatility will be important for Nottingham Forest, and the Brazilian has talents that can help Forest.
Luiz is an experienced Premier League player and is experienced playing in Europe, having done so with Aston Villa in the Conference League and in the Champions League for Juventus.
| Stat | Total |
| Games played | 175 |
| Goals | 20 |
| Assists | 18 |
The experience that the former Villa man will provide will be important, with many members of Nuno’s squad never having played European football.
While Espirito Santo delivered a “worried” message ahead of Forest’s opening Premier League game, the business that has been done since will certainly calm those feelings.
