The future of Nuno Espirito Santo is the hot topic at Nottingham Forest right now.

After Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace, the players will return to training ahead of this weekend’s game against West Ham at the City Ground.

Forest fans sang Espirito Santo’s name on Sunday at Selhurst Park and clearly, there is no doubt in the mind of the fan base where their loyalties lie.

Espirito Santo is thought to have fallen out with Edu over a failed move for Fulham winger Adama Traore who he worked with previously at Wolves.

Morgan Gibbs-White threw his support behind Espirito Santo but the harsh reality could soon be that the club are seeking a new head coach to come into the club.

Nottingham Forest sound out Manuel Pellegrini

Ange Postecoglou has been linked with Forest and that link has proved pretty unpopular across the board with the club’s supporters.

Now, according to Chilean outlet La Tercera, Forest have sounded out former Manchester City and West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini, should Espirito Santo leave.

The 71-year-old led City to a Premier League title during the 2013/14 campaign and has a pretty decent reputation when it comes to management across Europe.

Pellegrini is currently in charge at Real Betis, where he helped them to the UEFA Conference League final last season before losing to Chelsea.

Forest must do whatever it takes to keep Espirito Santo

Pellegrini is a very capable manager, but it’s hardly a move that will inspire should Espirito Santo walk away from Forest in the coming days.

Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is a fan of Jurgen Klopp, but that simply won’t happen any time soon, and attracting a truly elite manager will be tricky.

Forest have made great strides this summer when it comes to the squad building process and it’s now important that the head coach who led the team into Europe remains in place.

Pellegrini is arguably a better option than Postecoglou, but when it comes to the Australian taking over, the bar is set pretty low.

None of the linked names have really got supporters excited and as a result, there must be a truce between Espirito Santo and Marinakis in the near future.
