Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson made his debut for England in their 2-0 win against Andorra this evening.
After impressing at the under-21 European Championships in the summer, helping England to win the competition, Thomas Tuchel decided to promote Elliot Anderson to the senior squad.
The Nottingham Forest midfielder started in the World Cup qualifier and played the full 90 minutes, evincing the trust Tuchel has in him.
England fans were really impressed with Anderson’s debut and some even said he looked a level above Declan Rice.
Here’s what Tuchel and Reece James had to say about the 22-year-old’s performance.

Thomas Tuchel delivers verdict on Elliot Anderson’s debut vs Andorra
Anderson won the Man of the Match award at Villa Park after a controlled and progressive midfield performance.
The Forest star could’ve rounded off his debut with a goal, too, but was denied by a brilliant save from Iker Alvarez.
Speaking after the game, here’s what Tuchel had to say about the former Newcastle United academy graduate,
“Very, very good. He was a bit nervous at the beginning of the training week but then he did good and we said let’s try it. He showed he can become a very good player.
“That was the test and I think he passed the test. There’s no reason why he shouldn’t play in Serbia if we decide to have the position for him. He’s ready to go.”
Reece James reacts to Elliot Anderson’s display
Chelsea’s Reece James registered an assist for England today, delivering a lovely curling cross for Declan Rice to head home.
James spoke about Anderson post-match and admitted that he couldn’t believe he didn’t get called up sooner.
“He is a phenomenal player,” the 19-cap international explained.
“He fully deserves to be here, and he showed that with his performance today. I have played against him and I can see what he can do in the Premier League. The toughest league in the world – I thought his call-up would come sooner.”
Clearly, Anderson is already making a big impression around the England camp, so there’s a good chance he makes the plane for the World Cup next year.
