The Europa League has brought immense excitement to Nottingham Forest, but Nuno Espírito Santo’s squad decision did cause controversy that Ange Postecoglou now has to deal with.

It was known that the registration rules can be complicated, but when it was revealed that club-record signing Omari Hutchinson had been left out of the Europa League squad, onlookers were left shocked.

In what ended up being one of Nuno’s final decisions at the club, Forest fans were left baffled by the Europa League squad, with Oleksandr Zinchenko’s absence causing confusion.

Thankfully, Zinchenko was added to the Europa League group, but Postecoglou has still had to find a way to deal with Hutchinson and the other absentees.

Ange Postecoglou brings entire squad to Real Betis opener

Amid the noise of who is in or out of a squad, Postecoglou is still trying to instil his style of play at Forest, so ideally, he’d have access to his entire group at all times.

Thankfully, then, the Reds head coach has been allowed to bring the full Forest squad to Betis, even those who were not selected by Espírito Santo.

Speaking about this decision in his pre-match press conference, Postecoglou said: “We’ve actually brought the whole group across, even the ones who aren’t eligible because I think it’s really important that at this early stage we keep the group together.

“Being away allows that spirit within the team to gel a bit quicker because we do have a lot of new players. So yeah, I think it’ll be a worthwhile couple of days for us.”

To give credit to Nuno, one decision he made with the Europa League squad that was perhaps controversial is now benefiting Postecoglou in Seville.

Nicolas Dominguez is training with the Forest squad in Seville

The Reds were seen practising their possession game at the Estadio La Cartuja on Tuesday evening, preparing for the grandeur of the 70,000-seater stadium as well as the heat in Spain.

One of the players seen in the training drills was Nicolas Dominguez, who is returning to fitness at a good time as Espírito Santo actually included the Argentine midfielder in the squad.

On Dominguez, Postecoglou said: “We brought Nico Dominguez across as well. He’s now training fully, but won’t be a part of tomorrow.”

Dominguez has been training in Nottingham, too, highlighting that his return to action is imminent and should give him time to experience plenty of the Europa League.
