Sunderland took the lead against Nottingham Forest on Saturday’s late afternoon kick-off, and the circumstances surrounding the goal have been deemed questionable by former Forest player Andy Reid.

The goal was ultimately the deciding factor of the game, as Ange Postecoglou’s men failed to turn things around.

The wait for a first win goes on for the Australian, but perhaps the Tricky Trees could have got a lot more from the game.

A moment that led to the goal was highly controversial, and Andy Reid could not believe what he had seen.

Andy Reid shocked by decisive referee decision as Nottingham Forest lose to Sunderland

Andy Reid appeared on Sky Sports for their coverage of Nottingham Forest vs Sunderland, and the former Reds player was shocked that the referee gave the free-kick which led to the Black Cats’ goal.

Nicolas Dominguez and Trai Hume came together in a 50/50 challenge, with the Argentine hitting the deck after clearing the ball.

The referee decided to give Sunderland a free kick, and the Forest midfielder was booked for simulation.

On the incident, Andy Reid said, “I can’t quite get my head around it. I think it is an absolutely bizarre decision.”

Reid was then asked if he thinks the foul went the wrong way and replied, saying he thought there was ‘nothing’ in it before later calling it a ‘really, really poor decision’.

This decision would end up being the deciding factor in the game, with Omar Alderete scoring from the resulting free kick.

However, Ange Postecoglou and Nottingham Forest will no doubt feel hard done by.

It was a strange decision by the referee in Nottingham Forest vs Sunderland

It was a very strange decision by the referee, as it was a 50/50 challenge, and even on the replays, it is still not clear if there is contact.

Dominguez had cleared the ball, and there was not much reason for him to go down in that situation.

Decision aside, it was a poor performance from Nottingham Forest going forward, and they struggled to cause Sunderland any real problems.

However, this decision will no doubt remain the biggest talking point, as Ange Postecoglou searches for his first win.
