The Nottingham Forest B-Team saw their hopes of qualifying from their group in the EFL Trophy evaporate against Blackpool – courtesy of a familiar face.
Warren Joyce’s team headed to Bloomfield Road looking to get another point on the board after drawing their first group game against Tranmere.
The Forest youngsters needed a positive performance, and although they got one, it wasn’t to be for the Reds, who now face the prospect of a dead rubber against Barrow in two weeks.

Josh Bowler scores EFL Trophy winner vs Nottingham Forest
Forest might be forgiven for having forgotten exactly who Bowler was following his three seasons at the football club, which saw him fail to make a single appearance.
Bowler had a number of loan spells during his time at the City Ground and finally headed out of the club on a permanent deal back to Blackpool in the summer.
Forest signed Bowler shortly after promotion and immediately loaned him out to Olympiacos, with the player always looking like an ideal addition to the ranks should the Reds get relegated in their first season back in the Premier League.
However, things didn’t work out and Bowler wasn’t in the club’s plans under Steve Cooper or Nuno Espirito Santo, with Blackpool re-signing him permanently three years after selling him in the summer.
Bowler scored the game’s winning goal in the 75th minute as the Tangerines secured their passage into the knockout stages, with the Forest B-Team going down 2-1.
Kalum Thompson scores again for Forest B-Team
The real bright spark of the Forest performance at Blackpool was once again Kalum Thompson, who signed for the club from Linfield during the summer.
He’s now scored four goals in eight appearances for the club, operating on either the left wing or in the number 10 position in Joyce’s team.
Forest fought off a number of clubs to sign him, and with a number of different competitions for the Reds youngsters to play in this season, there will be plenty of opportunities for him to keep shining for the team.
