Nottingham Forest were battered 3-0 at the Hill Dickinson Stadium as Sean Dyche endured a horrid return to Everton.
The writing was on the wall after just two minutes when Nikola Milenkovic put through his own goal to give the Toffees a perfect start.
Further goals from Thierno Barry and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall meant that Forest left Merseyside with more questions than answers.
Things might have been different, however, with James Tarkowski clearly committing an act of violent conduct towards Dan Ndoye in the first half, with Dyche left absolutely raging.

Make no bones about it, VAR is complete and utter nonsense, and Forest have once again been on the wrong end of another absolute stinker.
Tarkowski clearly lashed out at Ndoye in the first 11 minutes, and as the player needed treatment, VAR had a look at what the uncompromising defender did.
Now, it’s come to light courtesy of Sky Sports reporter, Rob Dorsett, that Forest are once again compiling a complaint to send to the PGMOL.
He said: “#nffc to complain to PGMOL about James Tarkowski’s off-the-ball shoulder barge on Dan Ndoye in #efc defeat. Forest bosses were furious and adamant that it was violent conduct in the 11th minute. They want an explanation. Dyche said post-match, “I’m amazed big Tarky got away with that.”
Dyche must now prepare his team to face Utrecht on Thursday before facing Tottenham at the City Ground on Sunday in an eagerly anticipated contest.
Forest have work to do to salvage season
Forest need to stop pleading with the PGMOL with the concept of whinging and moaning, which is pretty embarrassing after such a humbling defeat.

Dyche does have lots of players out injured at the moment, and it told at Everton as the Reds succumbed to a drab defeat in their first game at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Clearly, Tarkowski probably should have been sent off, but this has become the norm with VAR, and Forest need to try and accept it these days.
Dyche will be smarting at the incident, but at the same time, he himself has work to do, and the Reds must ensure they bounce back with two games this week.
