Chris Wood hasn’t played for Nottingham Forest since October, following a 3-0 defeat to Chelsea.
Whether it was Ange Postecoglou’s training methods or something else, Wood hasn’t made an appearance under Sean Dyche, and doubts remain over when he will return.
Wood was outrageously good in 2024/25, bagging 20 goals in the Premier League as Forest finished seventh and qualified for the Europa League.
Now, after beating Wolves 1-0 at Molineux, Dyche has been quizzed on a possible return for Wood, and it would appear as though the prognosis is far from positive.

Sean Dyche provides update on Chris Wood
It would appear as though Wood won’t be back on the football pitch any time soon, with Dyche still being quite coy over the severity of his injury.
Speaking ahead of a trip to Everton – where he scored last season – Wood’s progress has been mentioned by Dyche, who seems somewhat worried about the problem.
He said in his press conference: “We’re not putting any timescales on it because it’s slowly going in the right direction. We’ve just put him on the proper pathway. It’s very early yet.”
Wood might not be a certain pick under Dyche, given how Igor Jesus is playing at the moment, but ultimately, he’d be a great option to have within the squad.

Forest need a striker in January
If Wood is going to be out injured for longer than the January transfer window, the Reds need to enter the market for a replacement for the talisman.
Arnaud Kalimuendo has been linked with a move to play regular football, and it does feel as though a talisman might be on the hit list for Forest.
Dyche will want to get his own players through the door in January, and if anything happens to Jesus right now, it would leave the club desperately short in attack.
Given what Wood achieved last season for Forest, it’s a shame that injury has struck him so cruelly.
Dyche will now hope that the correct course of action can sort his injury problem and he can be back on the pitch quickly for the second half of the campaign.
