It’s not been an easy ride for Arnaud Kalimuendo so far at Nottingham Forest.

Since arriving from Rennes in the summer transfer window for a fee in the region of £30 million, Kalimuendo has been forced to beg, borrow and steal to get minutes in the team.

Clearly, his case for game time hasn’t been helped with Forest having three different managers, but he does have a knack for goals, it would seem.

Kalimuendo followed up his maiden goal for the club against Malmö with an emphatic finish to give Forest the lead in Utrecht.

In the process, the Frenchman created a little slice of history…

How Arnaud Kalimuendo created Nottingham Forest history

The talisman will be delighted to get among the goals again and showcase what he’s capable of to Forest head coach Sean Dyche.

Kalimuendo will now hope to push for a start in the Premier League as the Forest man looks to finally come to life at the City Ground.

After his goal against FC Utrecht, the striker ended a long-standing record held by Peter Davenport, who completed the same feat in 1983.

Kalimuendo became the first man to score in two consecutive European games since Davenport, and there is little doubt about the player’s quality in the penalty area.

The striker bagged for the second successive Europa League game and did something no other Forest player has managed to do since 1983. How did you rate the Frenchman out in the Netherlands?

Kalimuendo now deserves Premier League chance

The tricky thing for Dyche to contend with when it comes to playing Kalimuendo in the Premier League is that Igor Jesus doesn’t deserve to be dropped.

However, it is perhaps time for the striker to be getting more minutes from the bench as he looks to prove that he can score goals domestically too.

Davenport might have fancied keeping hold of his record for a little while, given that Forest’s return to the European stage had looked unlikely for many years.

Forest haven’t disgraced themselves back on the European stage, however, and but for a very poor Ange Postecoglou result, the club might have practically secured a top eight place now had Midtjylland been beaten at home.

The game in Utrecht was all about Kalimuendo and after scoring such a well-taken goal, it’s very exciting to see what he can do going forward this season.
