Nottingham Forest midfielder Ibrahim Sangare sent a firm message to his critics that it’s time they put the pitchforks down and climbed away from his back.

The Ivorian cost Forest £30 million back in 2023, and since arriving, he’s been fighting a losing battle in the eyes of some supporters who have questioned his every movement negatively.

There is some serious egg starting to emerge on the faces of some supporters. Since the season got underway, Sangare has been pivotal in the Forest team, and Sean Dyche appears to be a big fan.

Sangare played for the final time before he heads off to Morocco to take part in the African Cup of Nations against Tottenham, and he timed his best Forest performance to perfection.

What Sean Dyche loves about Ibrahim Sangare

The Forest head coach couldn’t smile wide enough after this win. He’d watched Sangare make a mockery of a multi-million pound Tottenham midfield with two assists and a brilliant long-range goal.

After the match, Sangare was the name on everyone’s lips on the banks of the River Trent, with Dyche left to rave about the Ivorian ahead of his departure for the African Cup of Nations.

He explained: “He’s certainly put a shift in for us, and we know he can play, we know he understands the game.

“Previously, he’s had a few injuries as well, which have maybe cost him. I’ve enjoyed working with him. He works hard on the training pitch, and he comes in with a smile and gets on with it.

“He’s shown what he can do and continued to do so today with a great goal.”

Ibrahim Sangare stats vs Tottenham

Sangare was playing at a completely different level to most players on the pitch against Tottenham, and he’s going to be sorely missed now that he heads off to the African Cup of Nations.

The biggest compliment that Dyche can take for Sangare’s form is that he’s now showcasing that he really can be a box-to-box midfielder and not just a midfield destroyer.

The Ivorian delivered a masterclass of epic proportions against Tottenham, with a superb showing.

Sangare has been booed by his own fans on a number of occasions since signing from PSV, but in professional style, he’s never let it get him down and has merely focused on silencing those who have dared to doubt him.

At 28, Sangare is approaching his peak years. Based on his recent form, the midfielder is proving to be worth every single penny of the £30 million paid for him, and boy, would Thomas Frank have loved a player of this ilk in his team at the City Ground on Sunday.
