Nottingham Forest star Chris Wood explains injury prognosis and suggests comeback timescale

For Nottingham Forest star Chris Wood, the 2025/26 campaign has been extremely traumatic.

Last season, the striker was Forest’s man of the moment, scoring 20 goals in the Premier League and firing the club into Europe for the first time in 30 years.

Wood started the season with aplomb, scoring twice against Brentford, but some poor form under Ange Postecoglou led to the goals drying up for the New Zealand performer.

A 3-0 defeat, which signalled the end of Postecoglou, was the last time Wood was seen in a Forest shirt, and it would appear that his injury has proved something of a complex one.

Now, Wood has opened up on the injury that has blighted his campaign and delivered an update on where he is with the problem that has prevented him from playing under Sean Dyche at Forest yet.

Chris Wood opens up on problematic injury

Any player who is 34 will begin picking up niggles, but this setback for Wood does feel a little bit more problematic given the uncertain nature of it.

Wood doesn’t seem to know when he will be ready to make a comeback from this current injury problem that he has, and he’s now lifted the lid on what the situation is.

He told Nottinghamshire Live: “It’s swelling of the bone, that’s as plain as I can put it. After four weeks, I stopped caring what it was and just concentrated on getting it fixed rather than worrying about that. I’ve got to make sure it’s right, and then I will get back to normal.

“You always want to impress a new manager. Luckily enough, with this gaffer, I’ve known him a long time.

“My knee told me I needed to wait and make sure it’s repaired. Luckily, I’ve got a manager who knows my game inside out, so hopefully, when I’m back, he can utilise me as well as the other boys in and around the squad to get the best out of all of us.”

Forest would welcome Wood back into the squad

With a big run of games coming up for Forest, it would be great to have Wood back available in the New Year to properly help the club avoid relegation from the Premier League.

The bottom half of the division is very tight, and any team that can put together a strong run of wins would find itself climbing a number of places.

Who is Forest’s first choice striker when everyone is fit?

Wood is a quality centre forward, and after last season’s exploits, it’s fair to say that Forest have missed his brilliance on the pitch this season.

With Igor Jesus and Arnaud Kalimuendo still finding their feet as far as the Premier League is concerned, Wood’s influence would be extremely useful in the squad and hopefully, he can return to action very soon.
