Nottingham Forest boss Sean Dyche has already made a decision on James McAtee

James McAtee hasn’t found regular football easy to come by since signing for Nottingham Forest in the summer.

The number 10 was signed as the heir to Morgan Gibbs-White’s throne, but the fact that the attacker remained on Trentside has led to McAtee largely playing a watching brief.

McAtee has been linked with a move to Besiktas ahead of the transfer window opening next month, and his future does appear to be somewhat uncertain at the City Ground.

Forest are eyeing Dwight McNeil in the transfer window and if any new players are going to be signed, it feels as though others will have to depart the club in the opposite direction.

Sean Dyche makes decision on Forest player James McAtee

According to the Daily Mail, Dyche has made a decision on McAtee ahead of the January transfer window and it’s good news for the attacking midfielder.

Dyche isn’t prepared to let McAtee leave the club during next month’s transfer window, with the coaching staff extremely impressed with his performances in training.

McAtee has only played for 411 minutes in all competitions this season, failing to register a single goal contribution from his nine appearances in total.

At 23, McAtee does have some time on his side and ultimately, he will gain confidence from the news that Dyche has no interest in letting him leave during the next transfer window.

Forest wise to keep McAtee at the City Ground

Although McAtee will have to be content with playing second fiddle behind Gibbs-White, his versatility could earn him some minutes elsewhere on the pitch.

However, all it takes is for Gibbs-White to get injured and McAtee will likely be the man called up to take his place in the team, with one major positive the suggestion that McAtee is still training well.

Forest don’t want to weaken their squad for the second half of the campaign and letting McAtee leave would certainly leave a gap in the squad.

The only way is up for McAtee at Forest and he will now hope to start grasping every opportunity that comes his way over the next few weeks.
