Nottingham Forest held talks with Steve Cooper favourite but he rejected Evangelos Marinakis

Nottingham Forest will be going in search of new recruits during the January transfer window, with the first half of the season proving quite miserable.

Forest were supposed to enjoy this season, back in Europe for the first time in 30 years, but Evangelos Marinakis making the call to appoint Ange Postecoglou for a 39-day spell has set the football club back.

Forest now face a fight to maintain their status as a Premier League club, with just five points separating them and the bottom three in the top-flight.

Marinakis has a contingency plan, it seems, with a former player reportedly on his radar before being rejected after trying to bring him back to the City Ground.

Nottingham Forest hold talks with Renan Lodi

According to Sports Mole, Forest held talks with Lodi about coming into the club to help Neco Williams in the left-back spot.

However, he rejected the advances of Marinakis after the terms of the deal weren’t to Lodi’s liking.

The Brazilian fancied coming back to Forest, but Marinakis had the idea that he’d sign him and then loan him to Olympiacos – something which Lodi didn’t want to do.

Lodi was a fan favourite during the 2022/23 campaign, helping the Reds remain in the Premier League as Steve Cooper’s main left-back across the campaign.

The player recently departed Al-Hilal and has been on the lookout for a new club, with Forest keen to bring him back after a 32-game spell.

Lodi now looks to be heading back to Brazil, with Atletico Mineiro set to complete the signing of the defender ahead of the new season.

Lodi would have been a very useful signing

Oleksandr Zinchenko hasn’t done a great deal since signing for Forest, and it’s clear that another left-back would be ideal for the squad.

Lodi would have been a player who knows the Premier League inside out and who would have been capable of making an immediate impact in the division.

Furthermore, he’d have provided some much-needed cover to Williams and would be able to bring some balance to the squad by being left-footed.

Lodi was a real fan favourite during his maiden spell at the City Ground and it’s a real shame that Marinakis wasn’t able to prise him back to the East Midlands.
