Champions League club think they can sign Nottingham Forest player in January

Nottingham Forest were beaten 2-1 by Manchester City, and for one player, the writing might be firmly on the wall.

Omari Hutchinson did get his first goal for the Reds against City, but a late – and somewhat controversial – goal by Rayan Cherki gave the title-chasers the victory.

The Reds deserved something for their efforts during the game and the City Ground rose to give Forest an ovation after their performance, with the result largely dictated by the match officials.

For one player, the game proved to be another one of frustration, and he could now be on the way out of Forest, with the January transfer window coming up on the horizon.

Arnaud Kalimuendo could now leave Forest

Despite signing for Forest in a deal worth around £30 million during the summer, Sky Sports Germany believes he could now move to Eintracht Frankfurt next month.

The Bundesliga outfit are keen to take the player on loan and now feels that his lack of minutes at Forest could help them seal a deal for him in the coming weeks.

Kalimuendo has scored in successive Europa League games recently but even when Forest have been chasing games in recent weeks, he’s not been able to get on the pitch.

Against City yesterday, he remained unused as Taiwo Awoniyi got the nod to enter the fold at the expense of the big-money Frenchman.

Kalimuendo leaving would represent a risk from a Forest point of view, with strikers in short supply at the City Ground on the back of Chris Wood’s ongoing injury issue.

Forest have to strengthen the squad

If Forest are to stay in the Premier League this season, they need all the players they can get and Kalimuendo will almost certainly have a part to play.

Letting him leave would almost certainly see a replacement needed, with Awoniyi not scoring in the Premier League for almost a year.

If a replacement can be sought – or Wood returns from injury – then perhaps Kalimuendo could leave in the coming weeks with the window open.

However, the Reds need to be careful and frankly, it remains a bit of a mystery that he’s not had more minutes since Dyche came to the club.
