Nottingham Forest defeated West Ham 2-1 at The London Stadium to breathe life into their season.

The Reds now have a seven-point cushion on West Ham, with Nuno Espirito Santo left to rue a disallowed goal in the second half.

Nicolas Dominguez equalised shortly after that stroke of luck for Forest before Morgan Gibbs-White scored a late penalty to give the Reds all three points.

It was the decision to award the penalty that caused the most stir and after the match, Wes Morgan delivered his verdict on Tony Harrington’s call.

Wes Morgan delivers verdict on big Nottingham Forest call

Morgan is clearly hoping Forest can pull clear of the relegation zone, and despite trying to keep a neutral handle on things last night, he doesn’t think West Ham have a leg to stand on.

Morgan thinks that the decision to award a spot-kick was right, with Alphonse Areola appearing to slap Gibbs-White in the face and getting nowhere near the ball.

He said: “Yes, it’s a clear, clear foul for me. Not sure what Soucek you know was quite trying to say with his point.

“Yeah, there is some physicality to the Premier League. But you can see the keeper has come out, got no ball and got Gibbs-White clean in the head.

“So as soon as the referee’s gone to the monitor, I think there’s only one outcome.”

Gibbs-White stepped up with aplomb to dispatch the penalty and bounce back from the one he missed against Sturm Graz earlier this season.

Forest must now kick on

With Arsenal and Brentford to play next, it was vital that Forest got the win against West Ham to ensure some breathing space at the bottom of the table.

Staying up is now the only remit for Forest this season and losing their Premier League status would be disastrous from the club’s perspective.

Sean Dyche was in sarcastic form last night, but ultimately, he will know that the performances now need to improve if more wins are to be secured.

Staying in the Premier League is the only remit now for Dyche, and if that milestone is reached there will need to be a conversation about how the club goes forward next season.
