Taiwo Awoniyi was the star of the show as he rounded off a superb Nottingham Forest win over Brentford with a first goal in 12 months during a 2-0 win.

Forest had Igor Jesus to thank for starting the ball rolling with a well-taken goal just 12 minutes into the contest against an in-form Bees outfit.

Who was your Man of the Match vs Brentford

Awoniyi was the man of the moment after his brilliant cameo, though, touching the ball 12 times and managing to find the net in the 88th minute.

There was another who came in for some praise from Gary Cahill, however, with the first goal studied in close detail by the former England defender.

Nottingham Forest star praised by Gary Cahill

Cahill was on duty for Sky Sports during the live games, and he was asked to deliver a verdict on the first goal scored by the Reds.

The cross from Aina was brilliant for Jesus, and it was the Forest right-back who will be credited with the assist that led to the Reds opening the scoring.

Speaking on the first goal, Cahill said: “Good work by Ola Aina, he gets it in well, I thought he’d just lost his chance, but it’s a good delivery and a great finish.”

Aina has been a huge miss for Forest during the first half of the campaign and it’s great to see him back in action and quite clearly, enjoying his football.

Forest can kick on with Aina back

Although Nicolo Savona did a good job deputising for Aina, the Reds do lose a bit of quality in the team when it comes to the defensive side of things.

Aina is very much the man who brings the vibes to the dressing room and the squad looks far better with him playing regularly.

The Nigerian performer was in fine form at Brentford and Forest now need to see more of his ability to drive forward and carve out chances for the Reds.

Aina deserves his flowers for his efforts today, and it’s good that Cahill picked him out for praise following a fine Forest performance.
