Nottingham Forest are trying to sign Jean-Philippe Mateta before the transfer window closes on Tuesday next week.

The French striker is itching to leave Crystal Palace, with Forest and Tottenham in the mix to sign him before the window grinds to a halt.

SHOULD we be signing Jorgen Strand Larsen instead of Jean-Philippe Mateta?

Mateta has already told the Eagles that he feels a new challenge is required in his career and that he doesn’t want to remain at Selhurst Park beyond this window.

Now, with Sean Dyche preparing his team to face Ferencvaros tonight at the City Ground, it would appear there is a sizeable update on Forest’s chances of signing Mateta.

Jean-Philippe Mateta wants Nottingham Forest move

According to transfer journalist Santi Aouna, Forest are now ‘very close’ to securing the signing of Mateta.

He claims that the player has now agreed to sign for Forest, with a deal seemingly tantalisingly close between the Reds and Crystal Palace.

Mateta was in fine form last season, scoring 17 goals in all competitions as the Eagles enjoyed a solid campaign that ended with the club winning the FA Cup.

Palace have unravelled somewhat since the last transfer window, with star players Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi both departing and Oliver Glasner announcing he will be leaving in the summer.

Now, Mateta is set to leave too, with Palace moving quickly to replace him with Forest target Jorgen Strand Larsen for £50 million.

Mateta could be a quality addition for Sean Dyche’s team

Many anticipated that signing Lorenzo Lucca from Napoli was the striker Forest identified as the man to help the attack for the remainder of the season.

Clearly, he was just viewed as an option to the squad, however, with Forest unlikely to pay £40 million for Mateta and then sit him on the bench for the rest of the season.

You can only pick one, who are you taking? Evan Ferguson or Jean-Philippe Mateta?

The uncompromising striker looks like he could be a real star at the City Ground and his style of play should make him tailor-made for a Dyche team.

The fact that he’s been playing in the Premier League for over two years bodes well, and hopefully Mateta can hit the ground running at Forest.
