Nottingham Forest are set to part ways with Edu after less than a year in his City Ground role, with Evangelos Marinakis unhappy with the work he has overseen.
Forest have had four managers during a chaotic 2025/26 campaign and although Edu is not solely responsible for that, he did start the ball rolling.

Nuno Espirito Santo never liked Edu and the pair clashed over the Brazilian’s decision not to sign Adama Traore from Fulham, despite the former head coach expressing his desire to reunite with him.

Why Evangelos Marinakis is deciding to sack Edu
From the outside looking in, it feels as if Marinakis is making Edu carry the can for an abysmal campaign that has taken place from a Forest perspective.
However, The Telegraph has reported that Marinakis has, in fact, held reservations over Edu for some time, with the owner uncertain over his work for a number of months.
Perhaps the alarm bells were ringing after the Espirito Santo debacle for Marinakis, and once Edu officially exits, it will be interesting to see what the Forest owner does next.
Edu hasn’t overseen all of the recruitment at Forest, but ultimately, the three players he definitely signed were Oleksandr Zinchenko, Douglas Luiz and Omari Hutchinson, with two of those no longer at the club.

Ultimately, if the season ends in relegation for Forest, Marinakis is going to have to take a large slice of the blame for how it’s all unfolded.
Not backing Espirito Santo looks like a foolish decision, especially considering he’s now overseeing the massive revival at West Ham, with the Hammers now out of the relegation zone at Forest’s expense.

There is still time for Forest to recover this season from the depths of despair, but time is quickly running out, and after losing 1-0 to Midtjylland at home on Thursday, the Europa League campaign looks to be drawing to a close.
Premier League survival is more important, however, and although Edu hasn’t been fit for purpose, it’s Marinakis who will face the wrath of supporters if the campaign ends in relegation.
