Nottingham Forest overcame Chelsea 3-1 at Stamford Bridge to move six points clear of the relegation zone, but the thoughts of everyone were with Jesse Derry.

The young Chelsea winger was handed his first start against Forest, but just before half-time, he was forced off after a sickening clash of heads with Forest defender Zach Abbott.

Derry lay motionless on the pitch as medical staff rushed to his aid, and his maiden start for Chelsea ended in heartbreak.

Abbott was also forced off in the incident with both clubs utilising the rule that allows for a concussion substitute to be made.

In the aftermath of the incident, Derry has now taken to social media to update the fans on his well-being, with Abbott sending the Blues starlet a classy message.

Zach Abbott sends message to Jesse Derry

Abbott certainly came out of the challenge luckier than Derry, with the Chelsea player taken straight to a nearby hospital for treatment and observation.

Derry has posted on Instagram thanking all of the staff for the help in sorting his injury quickly, and it would appear he’s quickly going to be on the mend.

Abbott has replied in classy fashion with the words, ‘Best wishes, mate’, also including a love-heart emoji towards the opposing player.

It’s great to see the two players quickly on the mend, and now Forest will have to assess Abbott ahead of Thursday’s clash with Aston Villa.

Abbott could miss the game against Villa if he shows signs of concussion, with the protocol dictating that a seven-day period without a game is mandatory.

Abbott was fit enough to walk off the pitch at Chelsea to be replaced by Neco Williams, and now it remains to be seen when he can return to action for the Reds.
