Ex-referee agrees with Vitor Pereira claim after Nottingham Forest lose to Manchester United

Nottingham Forest are still reeling from the decision made by Michael Salisbury to award Manchester United a goal in yesterday’s 3-2 defeat.

Forest would have stolen a point from Old Trafford had Matheus Cunha’s goal been correctly chalked off, but Salisbury decided to impress the gallery and ignore VAR, who advised he’d got his on-field decision wrong.

😤How on earth has Manchester United’s second goal stood against Nottingham Forest?!

A complete and utter disgrace!

The decision has caused a lot of debate, with former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher criticising Salisbury for his inexplicable decision.

Now, another former Premier League referee has defended Forest’s corner and suggested that it’s time for a change.

Mark Halsey agrees with Vitor Pereira claim

After the game, Pereira was relaxed. After all, there was little riding on this game from a Forest perspective, but he still had a solution to this handball incident.

Pereira believes that the handball law needs refining once more, and it would appear that Halsey agrees with such a notion.

He told Give Me Sport: “I agree with Pereira that we need to sort out the interpretation of offences that fall under law 12, for handling the ball, as fans have had enough.

“The debate once again sparked confusion around the handball law, with supporters left frustrated by what is and is not being punished in the modern game.”

It was quite nice to hear Pereira in good spirits despite clearly being frustrated inside, but he’s got a very good point.

The handball law is just not fit for purpose at the moment, and how a goal in the sport of football can be allowed to stand when a player uses his arm to get a shot away is just ridiculous.

The powers that be have to get in a room and simplify the handball law for the greater good, and the fact that this has happened before the season finishes could actually ensure a meeting takes place to discuss changing things.
