Nottingham Forest captain Morgan Gibbs-White has been arguably the standout performer this season.

Despite four managers, some drab performances and a fight against relegation, Gibbs-White has led the team superbly under Vitor Pereira and guided the team to safety with ease.

Gibbs-White has been in strong form for a few months and will be a contender for the Player of the Year accolade when it’s announced at the end of Sunday’s game with Bournemouth.

FINAL: Morgan Gibbs-White vs Neco Williams?

After 17 goals and seven assists this season, Gibbs-White will no doubt have potential suitors this summer, but some comments he’s made have given hope to Forest.

Morgan Gibbs-White comment should help Forest

Should Manchester United come and slap a huge sum of money on the table this summer for Gibbs-White, then the likelihood is that he will leave.

However, there is a sense that Gibbs-White won’t kick up a stink to depart the City Ground and some comments he’s made to Sky Sports suggest why he’s better off staying put.

“Yeah, I love it, having that weight of responsibility and leading out the team at the City Ground, it’s a really special feeling. I wear it with pride, and I’m so proud of it. There’s not just me who leads this group; there are others. Being able to lead Forest out at the City Ground in Europe and in the Premier League is a really great feeling.

“I enjoy the pressure, I like having it on my shoulders, if there is weight on my shoulders, I feel like I thrive off it.”

Unlike at Forest, other clubs’ supporters will have to fall in love with Gibbs-White.

At the City Ground, he’s spent four years building up a strong rapport with the fan base, and it’s fair to say that he’s the big fish in a small pond.

Gibbs-White can remain loyal to Forest for another season, likely keep the captaincy and help the Reds kick on next season under Pereira’s management.

What is your prediction for Saturday’s final game of the season vs Bournemouth?🤔

We've not beaten Bournemouth since 2015!😮

It would be seriously detrimental to lose Gibbs-White in the same summer when Elliot Anderson looks certain to leave.

Now, these comments offer a suggestion that the Forest number 10 loves playing for the club and being the captain is something that makes him feel very proud.

And, that is something that he simply won’t get anywhere else…
